Our top tips for choosing the right Airbnb furniture

airbnb-furniture-guide

Generating extra income through renting your investment property, or even just a room in your house through a platform such as Airbnb, can give your savings a nice (and much needed) boost. Not only that, it’s fun! Hosting your space through Airbnb allows you to interact with people from all walks of life. Whether they are from a different part of Australia, or from somewhere much further away; meeting people and experiencing different cultures is what helps us to grow as humans! The key to meeting these people? Having an accommodation offer that draws them in! At Daydream Leisure Furniture, we live and breathe all things comfort, entertaining, and excellent quality, so we thought we would put together a helpful guide to choosing the right furniture for your Airbnb.

Every space needs furniture, however, it’s important to choose the RIGHT pieces for the room, ensuring they both suit the style and style you want to create, and that the pieces are functional for your guests. Successful Airbnbs often have the perfect balance between “insta-worthy style” and functionality for their guests. While people are booking in for a weekend away or a holiday, they are choosing Airbnb for the luxury of home comforts, which hotels often fall short of providing.

So, here’s our tips for choosing the right Airbnb furniture for your holiday rental success and “superhost” status…

#1: Think of functionality first

Airbnb options are usually small, be it a bedroom, a studio apartment, a cabin etc., so you want to keep things simple when it comes to ‘stuff’ in the space; remember, you’re going to be cleaning the entire apartment all the time, so don’t make it harder than it needs to be. Every piece of furniture should have a function, and should be dictated by what your clientele need. Do you have business guests? A desk may be important. Do you want to host large groups for entertaining? Be sure to invest in a large dining table and plenty of seating options. Marketing your space as a romantic cabin? Include a fireplace or big two-person bath. And we can’t stress this enough, make sure everything is simple and easy to use/operate, nothing ruins a weekend like a fold out couch that doesn’t do as promised.

One of the areas people sometimes overlook when furnishing their Airbnb is the outdoor area, and it is the space that can make the biggest impact on your guests’ stay. Everyone loves the ability to entertain outdoors, especially here in sunny Queensland. So be sure to include appropriate (and stylish) furniture that fit the needs of your guests. If there’s just 2-3 people, a coffee table like this one will do, but if you need to host the masses, the Nardi ‘Rio’ Extending Table fits 10 people comfortably, and looks REALLY good doing it.

#2: Furniture form and how it fits your space.

This is where the style and look of your space comes into play. Do you have a certain aesthetic you want to achieve? Remember, we are all visual creatures, and people will be booking your place based primarily on your photos alone. If you don’t have a strong theme, keep things simple, and you can always add some little touches throughout the decor. Simplicity is key to Airbnb – hey, it even rhymes!

To summarise, here are three things to consider when buying your Airbnb furniture.

  1. Buy quality over quantity. Spend a little extra buying solid and good quality furniture and can trust will stand the test of time. No glass top tables; you don’t want things getting broken or worse, someone hurting themselves.
  2. Opt for stylish pieces where possible. We don’t want to harp on about the “style” of your accommodations, but it really is the key to getting bookings and charging a premium price.
  3. Consider the upkeep for every piece of furniture you buy. You’ll be cleaning between every guest, and the more efficient the process is, the less stressed you will be.

If your space was a person, how would you describe it? Is it young and fun, artsy and vintage, or beachy and calm? Try to give your listing a personality as it will help direct the overall purchases and feel for your audience. According to Airbnb, the majority of bookings are made by women, so target your style and imagery at the moms, wives, and girlfriends who will book.

🌟 Extra Tip 🌟

  • If you’re looking for inspiration, check out the top-rated hosts in your area. Don’t waste too much time trying to reinvent the wheel or create the most unique space possible – you can always refine your space as you get feedback and bookings.

At Daydream Leisure Furniture, we offer much more than just outdoor furniture. We have dining, cafe, bar and lounge settings that will work both indoors and outdoors (or both!). Why getting a picnic table for your workplace can improve your bottom line

team-lunch-corporate-culture

What do we want? Picnic tables in the workplace!  When do we want them? Now!

This chant might be a little excessive, and your employees may not be in the corridor reciting their demands. Still, we aren’t lying when we say that a picnic table could dramatically improve your workplace productivity and the overall well-being of your employees. Not convinced? Let me explain…

More and more companies are realising the benefits that a strong workplace culture can have to both productivity, standard or work and the attendance or health of their employees. While it’s understandable that when buying furniture for your office, an outdoor picnic table wasn’t on the list, we’re about to give you a few good reasons why it’s time to invest!

Fresh air promotes productivity and creativity.

It’s no secret that fresh air does wonders for the mind and body, and after long periods in an air-conditioned office – it’s something we all need. Occupational therapists and doctors agree; spending time outdoors during the workday improves productivity. Why mess with science?

Give your employees the perfect spot, where they can step outside, get some fresh and enjoy the sun while they have their lunch. Better yet, a quick coffee catchup with a client, or a morning meeting. This change of scenery and fresh air will have your employees moods up and creative juices flowing well into the morning.

Best part? Picnic tables (we love this one) are comfortable to work at, and seat up to 6 people comfortably; so nobody needs to miss out!

They bring the team together

Having a communal outdoor area promotes socialisation between teammates and colleagues, leading to improved working environments and confidence. Workplaces, especially in the corporate world, can come with added stress and competitiveness between workers. Allowing them to form relationships in a more social or relaxed environment will improve communication and teamwork in the boardroom, too!

Furthermore, an important aspect is the socialising between employees and management. Research has shown that if able to connect in a relaxing atmosphere, employees and their superior counterparts are more likely to adopt friendly relations that transfer to the workplace and reduce tensions from day to day.

Employees and management are more apt to adopt friendly relations when they relax together, out-of-doors during break and mealtimes, reducing the potential for workplace tension and dramas when they go back inside to the daily grind.

Much like the traditional picnic table, the Kwila ‘Picnic Bench’ setting exudes calm, happy vibes no matter where it sits; so we think it would do wonders for your work environment!

It’s an excellent recruitment perk.

Recruiting good staff is a tough job. These days, it can take more than a salary and position to impress a potential candidate. Corporate culture is high on the priority list, along with free parking, team lunches and more. Creating a fun and positive working environment promises happy staff and lower employee turnover. Win, win! A strong corporate culture, which obviously includes a lunch table in the fresh air, can give a position description a valuable point of difference.

They are easy to look after

The last thing you want in the corporate world is to think about looking after furniture – we do enough of that at home. Fear not, however, as picnic tables are sturdy, low cost, and low maintenance—all of which saves on cleaning expenses and janitorial work.

However you look at it, there’s so many reasons to invest in a sturdy, functional, and stylish picnic table for your employees to take a break from the grind and get a breath of fresh air.

Are you convinced? We sure are! And we have plenty of tables at our workplace! So, if you’re looking for a high-quality, affordable table to improve your workplace culture, productivity and aesthetics, come and see our team. We have expansive showrooms in both Noosa and Warana as well as a huge range of stock and information available through our website.

3 Cocktails for a Summer of Poolside Entertaining!

It’s time to get into the summer mode! Pool, beach, or even your backyard; there’s always time to sit back in the sun and relax with your favourite cocktail. Whether you have friends over for a backyard pool party, heading out to the local beach spot, or just relaxing in your outdoor oasis; here’s our take on the best poolside cocktails for this summer of entertaining, as well as a few key pieces to help set the scene!

A Refreshing and Easy White Wine Spritzer!

With 3 simple (and cheap) ingredients, you can create the ultimate crisp, easy-drinking summer cocktail.  Nothing beats the first cold sip of a white wine spritzer. Cold, crisp, refreshing, and you won’t have a headache the next day.

What you need:

  • 3/4 cup white wine
  • 1/4 cup club soda
  • Lemon rind for garnish
  • Ice

How to make it:

  1. Simply add wine to a tall wine glass semi-filled with ice (to your liking) and top with club soda. Twist lemon rind over glass and add.

Our tip: Make it as cold as possible by putting your wine and soda in the freezer for 20-30 minutes before serving. Perfect!

Pair it with: Lay back on the luxurious Nardi ‘Alfa’ Sunlounge with this drink in hand, and keep cold refills close by with our stylish wine cooler, which has room for a few of your favourite wine bottles! If you’re socialising on the beach or out on the water, these wine glass stabilisers and an absolute lifesaver, too!

Tequila Sunrise

Now, this is a fun and colourful cocktail that screams summer! Don’t let the word tequila scare you off, this treat is bold and sweet, yet refreshing and will keep you happy all afternoon! It’s also another simple one, with a few staple ingredients which are layered to create a stunning ‘sunset’ visual cocktail.

What you need:

  • 45 ml tequila
  • 90 ml orange juice
  • 15 ml grenadine
  • Ice
  • Optional: Orange slices or maraschino cherry to garnish

How to make it:

  1. Pour tequila and orange juice into a tall glass filled a quarter of the way with ice.
  2. Stir these two ingredients (only) to mix the tequila
  3. Slowly pour in grenadine. It will sink to the bottom, so do not stir the drink; otherwise your ‘sunrise’ will become a pink juice!

Pair it with: You can’t have a tequila sunrise without a full beach theme (in our opinion). So, grab your turkish beach towel, one of these adorable beach umbrellas, and a few ‘Tropicana’ napkins; you’ll be the most vibrant person around (and with good reason).

Mojito

You really can’t go past the classic mojito during cocktail hour(s). With the delightful taste of mint, lime and sugar; it’s the perfect blend of sweet and sour. We envision all your close girlfriends, sitting by the pool or in the back garden, pretending its 1970 in sophisticated hats and striped bikinis.. (or is that just me?).

What you need:

  • 90ml Bacardi or white rum
  • ½ a fresh lime
  • A handful of mint leaves (about 12) + a sprig for garnishing
  • A teaspoon of caster sugar
  • Soda water
  • Cubed or crushed ice (crushed really makes this cocktail)

How to make it:

  1. Put the lime wedges and sugar into a tall glass.
  2. Use a muddler (or the end of a rolling pin) to squish the ingredients together and release the juice of the lime.
  3. Put the mint leaves on one hand and clap to release their aroma. Then use a spoon to push the mint down into the lime juice.
  4. Half fill the glass with ice, pour in the white rum and stir the mix together until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Top up with crushed ice, a splash of soda water and garnish it with a sprig of mint

Our tip: Add some cold fresh blueberries into the glass before muddling for a fruity mojito twist!

Pair it with: Create the ultimate garden party with this hyacinth white tray table, festive garden party jug, your favourite rug and a bunch of these NF Yellow Stripe Outdoor Cushions. Alternatively, you can opt for a full Nardi sofa setting and be ready to host your backyard cocktail-hour all year round.

Jamaican Beach Hotel Uses Nardi Furniture To Bring Back 1960’s Island Glamour

nardi furniture

If there’s one thing the team at Daydream Leisure Furniture love, it’s our Nardi Outdoor furniture range. With a range of colours, quirky designs and accessories to mix and match with, it’s one of the most popular outdoor furniture ranges on offer! And for good reason. Made from high-quality Italian materials, this Nardi furniture range is a sure hit for businesses in the hospitality industry.

One particular hotel ‘Skylark Negril’ located in the Caribbean island nation of Jamaica, have taken the Nardi Furniture to a whole new level of 1960’s styling. Inspired by an era of interior design where pop art, bubble-gum paint colours and plastic furniture were all the rage. The Nardi Furniture used at this newly renovated resort perfectly complements the oceanfront properties and holiday escapes that most customers expect when checking in to a resort!

So, continue reading on to see how Skylark Negril have used the Nardi Furniture range to successfully build their social media platform and transform their Caribbean hotel into a 1960’s time warp.

How Social Media Has Reshaped Our Ideas on Attractive Design

Social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest have influenced the way businesses are now designing spaces. Previously, interior designers would focus on how space would make a person feel through atmospheric qualities and little priority on how space would photograph. In the year 2019, this has completely changed. Instagram-centred designs, great lighting and coloured features to accommodate the perfect photograph has taken priority.

Skylark Negril have utilised the vibrant colours and mix-n-match qualities of Nardi Furniture to their advantage. Bloggers, influencers and your day-to-day social media users love to share every aspect of their holiday, so creating instagrammable-spaces is incredibly valuable.

Just take one look at the aesthetically pleasing photos on their Instagram where minimalist design meets the retro retreat of Skylark Negril. The Nardi Furniture that you see in the image below is the Nardi ‘Net Relaxer’ chair and Nardi ‘Step’ round table.

Nardi Furniture compliments Skylark Negril’s 1960’s inspired style

Interior design in the 1960s was a very exciting era. Following on from the soft pastels and aesthetics intended to evoke wholesome suburban comfort in the previous decade, the ’60s was far more expressive and bolder. Accent pieces and explosions of bright orange, blue, green, yellow and red colours were all the rage.

The Skylark resort was able to achieve the pops of colour using the Nardi Furniture range which complements the wall and floor-ceiling features. Mixing and matching the colours of the furniture to evoke excitement within the space, proves how the resort was successful in achieving a very 1960’s feel.

Take a look at how great the Nardi ‘Lido’ stools looks against the vibrant colours used at the Skylark resort bar. Here you can really see the explosion of colour in full effect.

Nardi Furniture benefits

The Skylark Negril design team were very strategic when choosing Nardi to furnish their resort. The Caribbean climate is not forgiving on outdoor furniture. Much like the hot Australian climate, Skylark Negril furnishings have to withstand strong UV sun rays, humidity and tropical weather.

Nardi’s outdoor furniture range perfectly complements the needs of Skylark Negril’s resort, with all of the furniture made from high quality, long-lasting, water and UV resistant properties. This ensures the rich and vibrant colours continue to look ‘as new’ even years down the track!

10 Tips for protecting your outdoor umbrella!

outdoor umbrella

Of all the outdoor furniture you can install on your patio, an outdoor umbrella is one of the most vital and the most affordable. It protects you from the harsh Aussie sun and keeps the rain away when you are relaxing with a coffee outside. It also adds a flair of style to your patio and gives you a feeling that you are lounging at an expensive hotel, being waited on hand and foot!

An outdoor umbrella can quickly become dirty and unsightly when exposed to the weather for long periods of time. Umbrella protection, cleaning and maintenance should be a top priority for ensuring your umbrella continues to look as fabulous as the rest of your Daydream Leisure Furniture.

Cleaning an Outdoor Umbrella Canopy

  1. Minimise stains: Your first arm of defence is to attack stains or debris as soon as you notice them. Brush off any fallen leaves and bird droppings, because these can quickly stain the material. Wash any slight stains with warm water, detergent and a soft sponge, rinse away the soap and place the outdoor umbrella in a spot where it will dry quickly. Some of our outdoor umbrellas are made from an Olefin Fabric, which is highly durable, long lasting, fade and stain resistant, and pretty much waterproof. We also have umbrellas that are made from an Obravia Fabric that is environmentally friendly and resistant to mildew, rot and UV rays.
  2. Store umbrellas dry: To keep your outdoor umbrella looking its best, store it in a dry, shaded location when not in use. If you have one of our cantilever umbrellas, we also provide you with a waterproof outdoor storage cover, making it easy to store your umbrella. You can also purchase additional umbrella protection covers from us, in a range of sizes and styles.

Cleaning an Outdoor Umbrella Frame

  1. Aluminium frames: To keep your umbrella frame looking brand new, mix warm water with mild soap and wipe down the metal frame. If you have water spots on the metal, remove these with a mix of white vinegar and water in a 1:9 solution. Make sure that the frame is dry when you finish.
  2. Timber frames: You can usually use a mix of warm water and mild soap to clean timber frames, but always check the manufacturer’s instructions first.

Outdoor Umbrella Maintenance Tips

  1. Abrasive cleaners: Don’t use abrasive cleaners on the canopy or frame, as these can destroy the finish.
  2. Don’t force it: If you have trouble opening or closing your outdoor umbrella, don’t force it, because this can cause damage to the canopy or frame.
  3. Safe storage: If you are storing your umbrella for any length of time, always make sure it’s clean and dry; otherwise stains or mould can take hold. We also recommend that umbrellas should always be folded down when you are finished sitting underneath them, placing an umbrella cover over it if not in use for an extended period.
  4. Umbrella protection: Apply scotch guard to the fabric of your umbrella, as additional protection against the elements.

Daydream Leisure Furniture

Outdoor Umbrella Safety Tips

  1. Avoid windy conditions: As a general rule, umbrellas should also never be left up when not in use or being monitored. In the case of a windy day, take down the umbrella and store it somewhere safe. Non-commercial and freestanding outdoor umbrellas are not usually rated for high winds, so don’t put them on high balconies or rooftops where they can be blown over.
  2. Secure the base: To give your outdoor umbrella more stability, use the appropriate base or anchoring system, which will keep it in place under normal conditions.

Encouraging Social Media Engagement Through Furniture and Décor

selfie for social media

With the huge popularity of Instagram and Facebook, it’s no wonder that every business wants to encourage their patrons to share snapshots throughout their social media networks. In fact, this has become one of the major strategies that restaurateurs use to engage their own customers and drum up new custom.

If you want to drive new customers to your eatery, here are five décor and furnishing ideas that should give you a head start.

1.     Themes or eye-catching interior designs

With social media, everything is about being visually appealing, which is why your business needs a theme or an eye-catching presentation that customers want to photograph. These can include digital or neon signs or menus on the walls, as well as a stand out theme, such as communal eating tables, open kitchens and using Italian style furnishings such as Nardi.

Daydream Leisure Furniture

@NardiNetDiningChair

2.     Lighting for social media engagement

Lighting is an integral part of any eatery, creating its mood and ambiance. This can include a variety of pendants, chandeliers, candles, and lanterns, all used to establish your theme. Lights need to be positioned to allow your customers to visually appreciate your theme, décor, table settings and food, all of which comes together to make an instagrammable vignette.

If you make a feature of your lighting however, this itself can encourage customers to take photographs to share with their social media followers. People love taking photos, and the more reasons you give them to photograph your business, the more you increase online engagement.

Daydream Leisure Furniture@thegrounds

3.     Food presentation

Why not give your chef the freedom to create food that is photogenic and instagrammable? It makes perfect sense when you want to engage your target audience via social media, because everyone wants to share a visually amazing display of food with their followers. An even better idea is to commission plate ware that is eye-catching, taking your food’s presentation up another notch. At Daydream, we stock a huge range of tableware and dining settings that are the perfect addition to any commercial business. Browse our beautiful entertainment accessories here!

4.     Fun and branded menus

Since people automatically look for something unique and photogenic when they eat out, it makes sense to design your menus to be photographed. This means that engaging a local artist to design fun and interesting menus that complement your furnishings and theme, is a cost-effective exercise. People no longer simply photograph the food, so creating a space that has multiple photogenic factors within its décor is a win-win situation!

You can even personalise menus for special occasion bookings, making it pretty much guaranteed that they will photograph them and share it with their followers.

Daydream Leisure Furniture

5.     Create a photo wall

We highly recommend creating a unique design element or photo wall that customers would recognise when featured online and through social media. A few excellent ideas may be creating a living plant wall, planters filled with living herbs in the middle of your Nardi tables, backlit glass shelves filled with spirit bottles behind the bar or a wall covered in fabulous artwork. All of these furnishing and décor ideas make your eatery ‘instagrammable’, bringing in more customers to share your eatery with their social media followers!

Bonus Tips!

Instead of a boring photo of a plate of food, why not hand out wide-angle selfie sticks to your customers. This is a fun and creative way to engage your customers as well as showcase more of your business (furnishings included). Also, don’t forget to leverage your own branded hashtag so you can continue to engage with your customers post-purchase! Add these hashtags to all of your own Instagram images, captions and menus to keep your hashtag trending!

The Aesthetic Value of Furniture in Hospitality

nardi chairs in cafe

Updating your outdoor furniture is extremely important, especially when running a business within the hospitality industry. A strong economy, rising global consumer purchase power and digital innovation have all contributed towards the hospitality industry’s record growth in the last few years.

What is the servicescape?

The servicescape is the environment in which a service is provided and there is customer interaction. Servicescape furniture should be designed to appeal to customers pleasure and arousal states as well as facilitate operational ease and efficiency. There are four roles in the servicescape that we’ll be examining offering strategic reasons as to why you should update your outdoor furniture. These include:

  1. Package
  2. Differentiator
  3. Facilitator
  4. Socialiser

Daydream Leisure Furniture

In order to shape the success of your own business in the future, you should be updating your servicescape furniture sooner rather than later. Why?

  • Firstly, remaining relevant and fiercely competitive in the marketplace will keep your business top-of-mind and successful (Package).
  • Secondly, the hospitality industry has potential in social media allowing greater awareness for ‘trendy’ businesses to be shared (Differentiator).
  • Thirdly, physical settings influence the customer’s ultimate satisfaction with the service flow, design and functionality (Facilitator).
  • Lastly, furnishing and updating your service area will help facilitate whether customers feel comfortable in socialising and staying longer (Socialiser).

Daydream Leisure Furniture

  1. PACKAGE || Updating furniture in hospitality creates an impressionable package

The first role in the servicescape is the package. This is when outdoor furniture settings and the overall layout of a business creates a split-second impression to outward-looking customers. For example, this could be potential or new customers walking past a café whose first impression of your business is the look and design. First impressions are mostly created by the furniture layout, design, lighting, music and mood.

Take a look at how the Cantilever Umbrella is styled at the Providore on Hastings café in Noosa. It’s a practical, yet aesthetic that creates ambience customers love! View it here

Daydream Leisure Furniture

  1. DIFFERENTIATOR || Updating furniture in hospitality will help differentiate your business from competitors

The second role in the servicescape is the differentiator. This is often where a business can separate themselves from the market using unique furniture to offer a competitive advantage. That’s right! Outdoor furniture has the power to build your brand in the minds of customers, as well as establish your market position. Colours, design and feel will determine the value imposed on the customer whilst dining at your business.

Take a look at how the Cave Bianche Hotel have styled all white Nardi chairs by their poolside bar here

Daydream Leisure Furniture

  1. FACILITATOR || Updating furniture in hospitality will facilitate service flow and movement within your business

The third role in the servicescape is the facilitator. With over 20 years of industry experience, you can trust the team at Daydream Leisure Furniture to recommend a design that enhances the flow of activity in your business. We know that a well-designed, practical service area will make the experience for the customer a pleasant one. Say goodbye to cramped dining and hello to comfortable, functional settings.

Daydream Leisure Furniture

  1. SOCIALISOR || Updating furniture in hospitality will increase your customers need to socialise

The last role in the servicescape is the socialiser. A business that oozes comfort will keep your customers staying longer as well as coming back. The range of outdoor settings that we stock at Daydream Leisure Furniture is not only stylish but extremely comfortable. If customers are encouraged to interact and stay longer, your business will continuously look busy and attract more people. Furthermore, this also increases the opportunity to upsell your products (e.g. more coffee, dessert, drinks, snacks bought).

Daydream Leisure Furniture

There is no better time than now to update your outdoor furniture, especially if you’re running a business in the hospitality industry. Staying top-of-mind and competitive, as well as increasing the perceived comfort, value and satisfaction of your business will help you reach further success.

Protect your Stylish Outdoor Furniture from Sun Damage

Have you recently created a tranquil oasis at home with fresh plants, stylish furniture, and beautiful accessories? There’s nothing more exciting than updating your outdoor furniture. However, most people are unaware of how damaging the Australian sun is on upholstery, wicker and wooden materials. To ensure your brand-new furniture lasts, we’ve written a blog listing our best tips to protect your latest investments from being damaged by harmful UV rays.

Invest in an Outdoor Umbrella

The beauty about outdoor umbrellas is that they can protect your skin, furniture and keep you cool all at the same time. Outdoor umbrella’s offer a practical solution for added comfort when lounging outside under the midday sun. They’re also made to be a great styling accessory too! With a variety of fabrics, patterns and installation options on offer, outdoor umbrellas will continue to be an ongoing trend for protecting your alfresco furniture.

Cover it Up

It’s a simple suggestion, yet it’s something people tend to forget. Covering up your tables, chairs, and lounges, with a durable and weatherproof cover will help to ensure your brand-new settings aren’t being ruined by the sun. The ultra-violet rays, especially in Australia, are strong. These will eventually wear away the sheen and gloss on your furniture. In some cases, this can cause surface damage and in more severe scenarios, structural weakness! So, if you’re going away for a longer period of time (1 – 3 weeks) or simply not using your furniture, covering it up will best protect it.

Protect Your Upholstery

At Daydream Leisure Furniture, it is extremely important to us that we stock high performing and durable upholstery that support the quality of our outdoor furniture range. This I why we 100% support Sunproof Fabrics. They have proven to us time and time again that their fabrics match the quality and standards of our Daydream product range. To best maintain the ‘Sunproof’ Slings and ‘Sunproof’ cushions that we stock in-store, the following product care instructions should be followed.

‘Sunproof’ Slings: We recommend that Sunproof Textilene slings should be washed down regularly with warm water and any stains should be cleaned when they happen!

‘Sunproof’ Cushions: You should never store these wonderful cushions while wet. Removable covers should only be washed by hand or a very delicate machine cycle, and stains tended to immediately.

Despite the high-quality fabrics of the Sunproof upholstery, please follow these steps as general maintenance and care. This will ensure the extended life and vibrancy of these products. For a full description of the Sunproof Fabrics product care, click here.

Protect Your Wicker Furniture

To slow down the ageing process of your Wicker Furniture, we highly recommend that you do not place Wicker furniture in direct unfiltered sunlight for extended periods of time. Despite the high quality of the Wicker line we carry, the harsh Queensland climate can still cause damage if not protected. Because of this, it’s only recommended that these products are placed in semi-exposed environments at best. A simple wash with mild soapy water is also heavily dependent on the furniture’s use and location. For a full review of the ‘PE Wicker’ product care, click here or consult your local furniture specialist on what outdoor furniture range is best suited for you!

Protect Your Wooden Furniture

At Daydream, we stock two lines of wooden furniture; the Kwila and Teak product ranges. Whilst both of these lines are extremely tough and durable, a few product care steps are needed to ensure they’re both properly tended to.  During manufacturing, our Kwila and Teak timbers are dried in kilns which is a process that ensures the wood reaches consistent moisture content. Without this process, most cheaper timber furniture is prone to warping and twisting. Further care needs to be taken to both wooden lines such as regular oiling to ensure it doesn’t look weathered. As well as, avoiding any bleaches or strong solvents that can harm the timber surfaces. Specific to the Kwila line, a few rinses may be necessary to accelerate the bleeding process of resin/sap. This is to avoid any staining on ground surfaces or clothing etc. For a further in-depth explanation of this process, click here.

For the strongest protection against the harsh Australian climate, we highly recommend that you follow these handy tips. This will ensure your outdoor furniture stays vibrant and in good condition all year round. A little care goes a long way when protecting your new home investments.

If you are looking to refresh your outdoor setting feel free to contact us! We can suggest to you our professional advice on which products are most suited for your outdoor area. Short for time? Bring spring back into your outdoor living spaces

With spring not far away in Australia, it’s time to start thinking about your outdoor living areas and how you can make them feel more like an extension of your home. Most Aussies spend plenty of time on the patio and in the garden, so it makes sense to make these areas as comfortable and as inviting to everyone as the inside of your home.

Let’s look at five different ways you can style your outdoor spaces to make the most out of the outdoors at home!

Outdoor living rooms

If you want to create a wonderful outdoor living area, your choices are endless! A ‘must-have’ for your outdoor lounge is a comfortable sofa with plenty of cushions and a coffee table. Your best choices are between aluminium, timber and wicker frames, but be sure to select the design and style that complements your home’s interior décor.

The best type of outdoor sofas are modular and those that you can mix and match, because you can change the configuration to suit your needs, but also look for quality fabrics that don’t fade easily in the sun. As an added touch for the cool spring evenings, consider adding a fire pit or an overhead heater for a lovely cosy feeling.

Outdoor dining spaces

Dining alfresco outdoors is a fabulous idea as we start to enjoy the warmer evenings, but lunch outdoors with friends is also a great option and what about Sunday morning breakfasts out on the patio?

There is a wide variety of table settings for your outdoor patio, but timber is always a great choice, as is wicker, aluminium and even concrete (for people who want to try something different!). Don’t forget that you can select chairs that match your dining table or opt for a trendier ‘mismatched’ style by selecting a different design or material than your table. The Nardi Outdoor ‘Net’ Dining range comes in a huge variety of colours which can be styled together.

Tranquil and peaceful spots

For small patios or larger gardens where you want to create a number of different outdoor rooms, a tranquil and peaceful spot where you can read a book or listen to your favourite music in the shade is a great idea.

You won’t need much furniture for a quiet reading spot, maybe just one single comfortable chair and coffee table if you want the area to be just for yourself! You can even add a floor rug, vase of flowers and a small water feature to really treat yourself to a few hours of relaxation.

Morning coffee anyone?

When friends come over for morning coffee, it’s great if you can have a lovely outdoor setting where everyone can relax and chat outdoors on the patio. You can opt for a small modular setting and coffee table or a few matching chairs and coffee table, but whichever option you select make sure that comfort is your first priority.

Relaxing afternoon sanctuaries

There is nothing quite like putting your feet up in the late afternoon and just chilling on your own or with family and friends. Creating a relaxing sanctuary is very easy with just a daybed, an umbrella for extra shade and maybe a coffee table to hold your drink and magazines. Don’t forget to include a few stylish cushions for extra comfort and home décor items, such as lanterns, placemats and even outdoor lighting to add a personal touch.

Timber daybeds are very popular as are wicker daybeds, and since they are designed for the outdoors, they are very easy to keep clean. You can match your daybeds to your coffee setting or your outdoor alfresco dining setting and create a lovely, stylish outdoor entertainment area with plenty of options for everyone.

How to clean and care for patio cushions

clean-outdoor-patio-cushions

With spring just over the horizon, it’s time to freshen up your patio furniture and cushions so that they are ready for the warmer weather. Because the weather in Australia is usually warm enough to still spend time outside during the day, most of us don’t pack our patio furniture away in winter.

Some Aussies in colder areas, however, might need to pack their cushions away for the winter to protect them from the elements, but they still need to be cleaned and refreshed before using them in the spring. Regardless of whether you pack your cushions away or leave them exposed to the winter weather, often the cushions become mouldy with all the overnight moisture in the air.

Even outdoor cushions that are designed to be left outside all year can become dirty and dusty needing a good clean to bring them back to life for the spring. After all, there is nothing worse than sitting on an outdoor cushion that is stained or covered with dots of mould!

Let’s take a look at the best ways to clean and refresh your outdoor patio cushions so that they are ready for your springtime entertainment.

Dusty cushions

These can just be brushed lightly to remove any dust or light debris that might have collected on them, but often it’s much more effective to vacuum them. Make sure that you get right down into the seams, as this is where dirt and debris can collect and where mould can start to grow.

Lightly stained cushions

When cleaning light stains from your cushions, don’t rub them with a cloth, as this will make it worse, instead use a blotting action. Spray the cushion with a mild cleaning solution (or 50mls of soap in 3L of warm water), leave it a few minutes and then rinse them with clean warm water. It’s best to clean the entire surface of the cushion, even for just a few spots, otherwise, you might be left with water rings where the stain has been removed.

Deeply stained cushions

Something like bird droppings can be difficult to remove from your cushions, particularly if it has been left for quite a while! Use the same mild cleaning solution as for light stains, but now you will need to use a soft bristle brush to actively remove the stain. Rinse in warm water and leave to dry in the sun.

Mould stained cushions

This takes a little more work to remove, so use a mild soap and bleach mixture consisting of approximately 250mls of bleach and 50mls of mild detergent or soap in 3L of warm water. Spray the entire surface of the cushion, leave it to soak in for 15 minutes and use a soft bristle brush to remove the mould. Rinse in warm water and allow to dry in the sun.

If this mild bleach solution doesn’t remove all of the mould, increase the quantity of bleach, but check the label first, so that you don’t harm the fabric. You might also want to spot check the bleach solution on a small area of the fabric first, maybe on the underside, to ensure that it doesn’t discolour your cushions.

Oil stained cushions

Remove oil based spills from sunscreen immediately, so that it doesn’t  stain your cushions. Maybe lay a towel over a sun-bed or patio chair to avoid these type of stains, because they can be difficult to remove. You can dust oil stains with corn starch to absorb the oil and then brush the corn starch away, hopefully removing the oil stain, but you might have to do this a few times for it to work.

With all these spring cleaning tips, your patio cushions should be ready for the warmer weather and your springtime BBQs! If you need new patio furniture for your outdoor entertainment areas, check out the Daydream Leisure Furniture range today.
